The Gen Z protesters inherited their grandparents' hard-won democracy and watched it decay, leading to the appointment of Nepal's first woman interim prime minister, former Chief Justice Sushila Karki.

  • Nearly 80% of the world's poor live in regions exposed to climate hazards, with 887 million out of 1.1 billion people facing extreme heat, flooding, drought, or air pollution. Released on October 16 ahead of COP30, the new Global Multidimensional Poverty Index shows 651 million people endure two or more climate hazards simultaneously.

  • Mysterious 'warm blob' breaks records in the North Pacific Ocean as temperatures have surged across a large area, reports BBC Earth on October 17. Scientists don't know exactly why this phenomenon is occurring, raising concerns about ocean ecosystem disruptions.

  • The UK government vows to create 400,000 jobs in the clean energy sector, with Ed Miliband stating that developing the UK's clean energy sector is essential to "get bills down for good," BBC Earth reported October 19.
