The Power of Knowing and the Unknown
What I know shapes what I can do, but I’ve learned the most by embracing what I don’t know. Hosting the Social Change Career Podcast (Season 14 launching soon! For now please check out and consider rating/sharing our 170 + episodes) keeps me engaged with new ideas, and podcasts like Possible.fm & Capitalisn’t challenge my assumptions. Yet, the unknown is where I truly grow. Reading fiction, diving into blogs, and having conversations with people outside my field—like designers, architects, and others who are true innovators—often brings fresh insights I wouldn’t have found on my own.
Resources and Community to Learn From
I rely on platforms like MIT Technology Review to track how innovation shapes the world and Rest of World for stories from underserved regions. LinkedIn Learning is perfect for building practical skills, while SSIR and The Solutions Journalism Network show what’s working in social change. Events like Opportunity Collaboration and their community (one of best unconferences in the world. Check out their fellowship opportunities connect me to changemakers
Here in Medellín, we have an incredible impact community and host informal meetups to share ideas and learn from each other. If you’re in town let me know.
Finding Growth in the Unknown
The unknown is where I stretch and learn. I’ve discovered that reading fiction can be just as valuable as reading about social change—it sparks creativity and helps me see problems differently. Talking to people from completely different fields, like designers or architects, often leads to the most unexpected and exciting ideas. Checking out super cool series (I’m super excited to watch Season 2 of Severance on Apple TV, it is a brilliant show). The unknown isn’t intimidating—it’s where innovation begins.
